People's Capital Amaravati
A 391 sq. km area located centrally within the amaravati region has been identified for the development of a new Amaravati Capital city for the state. Amaravati is nearby Dharanikota which is the capital city of satavahanas dynasty who ruled in 2ndcentury BC, later ruled by Ikshuvakus, pallavas, chalukyas, cholas etc.The new riverfront Amaravati City of Andhra Pradesh state is proposed to be developed between Guntur and Vijayawada cities. Located towards the south – western part of Vijayawada and towards north of Guntur, the demarcated land is home to various age old religious and cultural sites of importance such as Buddhist stupa, Undavalli Caves, Bhavani Temple, Narasimhaswamy Temple, Dharanikota, etc.
The new Capital of Andhra Pradesh is envisioned to be the pioneer Smart City of India. It aims to be World Class and at par with the standards set forth by countries such as Singapore. The new capital Amaravati City will be an economic powerhouse that will create a range of jobs for existing resident villagers by upgrading their skills, as well as provide high-tech and knowledge based industry jobs to be globally competitive. Housing will be at the core of its planning and will aim to provide affordable and quality homes to all its residents. It will demonstrate global quality of life standards to offer high levels of convenience to people of all ages. The proposal will capitalize on the rich heritage possessed by the region and utilize it to create a unique identity for the Amaravati capital city. Sustainability and efficient man¬agement of resources will form another important pillar of this new capital. It will be supported by maintaining the clean and green character that the site currently demonstrates by mimicking these ideas in to the new capital master plan.
